Which came first, words or images?

Before there were alphabets there were cave drawings, but I'm betting before that there were various grunts. Words.

At least, that's the way it was for me. I didn't pick up a camera until I was six or so, but I'm pretty sure I was speaking by then.  

Ditto for crayons.
