Workshop payment, cancellation and liability policy

The important stuff before we hit the streets.

We want our workshops to feel relaxed, welcoming, and straightforward—and we think the logistics should be the same way.

Below you'll find our policies regarding registration, payment, cancellations, liability, and participation. Please read them in full before reserving your place.

By registering for a Three Blind Men and an Elephant workshop, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agreed to the policies outlined on this page.

Nothing onerous. Mostly golden-rule stuff. But important nonetheless.

PAYMENT + REGISTRATION

Your place in a workshop is not guaranteed until your registration and required payment have been received.

Workshop space is intentionally limited to 10 participants, and registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

Any available early-bird pricing will be automatically applied at checkout. Early-bird pricing expires 90 days before the workshop begins.

Your registration applies only to the individual named on the booking and may not be transferred to another person without prior written approval from Three Blind Men and an Elephant.

Unless specifically stated otherwise, workshop fees cover participation in the workshop itself. Participants are responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation, airfare, accommodations, meals, travel documents, insurance, equipment, and other personal expenses.

CANCELLATIONS + REFUNDS

We understand that life happens. Unfortunately, because our workshops are small and require significant planning well in advance, cancellations can have a substantial impact on the workshop.

If you need to cancel your registration, please contact us in writing as soon as possible.

Cancellation and refund eligibility will be determined according to the cancellation terms provided at the time of registration.

Any non-refundable deposits, processing fees, or other amounts identified as non-refundable at the time of purchase will remain non-refundable.

We strongly encourage participants—particularly those traveling—to purchase comprehensive travel insurance that provides appropriate coverage for trip cancellation, interruption, medical expenses, transportation delays, lost baggage, and other unexpected circumstances.

IF WE HAVE TO CANCEL

While we will do everything reasonably possible to hold each workshop as planned, circumstances outside of our control sometimes happen.

Three Blind Men and an Elephant reserves the right to cancel, postpone, relocate, or modify a workshop when necessary due to circumstances including severe weather, illness, emergencies, safety concerns, insufficient enrollment, transportation disruptions, government restrictions, or other events beyond our reasonable control.

If we cancel a workshop entirely, participants will be informed of the options available regarding workshop fees.

Three Blind Men and an Elephant is not responsible for expenses incurred outside of the workshop registration fee, including airfare, accommodations, transportation, meals, visas, insurance, equipment rentals, or other travel-related expenses.

Please don't book non-refundable travel without considering this possibility. Travel insurance is your friend.

TRAVEL + PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITIES

Our workshops take place in active cities and public spaces. A typical workshop may involve 3–7 miles of walking per day, long days, changing weather, crowds, stairs, public transportation, uneven surfaces, and plenty of time on your feet.

Participants are responsible for determining whether they are physically able to participate safely.

You are also responsible for:

  • Arranging your own transportation and accommodations unless specifically stated otherwise.

  • Obtaining any passports, visas, permits, vaccinations, or other documentation required for your destination.

  • Bringing and safeguarding your own photography equipment and personal belongings.

  • Following applicable laws, regulations, and local customs.

  • Making responsible decisions regarding your own health, safety, and personal property throughout the workshop.

  • Informing us ahead of time about accessibility needs that may affect your participation so we can discuss whether reasonable accommodations are possible.

International participants are responsible for confirming all entry and travel requirements applicable to them.

LIABILITY + ASSUMPTION OF RISK

Street photography means being out in the world—and the world isn't a controlled studio.

Participation in our workshops may involve inherent risks associated with walking through urban environments, public transportation, traffic, weather, crowds, unfamiliar locations, travel, photography in public spaces, and other activities ordinarily associated with this type of experience.

By participating, you acknowledge these inherent risks and voluntarily assume responsibility for your participation.

To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Three Blind Men and an Elephant and its owners, instructors, employees, contractors, and representatives are not responsible for injury, illness, loss, theft, property damage, travel disruption, or other damages resulting from circumstances outside of their reasonable control.

Nothing in these terms is intended to waive rights or exclude liability that cannot legally be waived or excluded.

YOUR GEAR + PERSONAL BELONGINGS

You are responsible for your camera equipment, computer, luggage, phone, money, identification, and other personal belongings throughout the workshop.

Please keep an eye on your stuff.

Three Blind Men and an Elephant cannot assume responsibility for equipment or personal belongings that are lost, stolen, misplaced, or damaged during a workshop except where responsibility cannot legally be excluded.

We recommend confirming that your equipment and personal belongings are adequately covered by your own insurance before traveling.

PHOTOGRAPHING IN PUBLIC

Our workshops are designed around street photography, which means participants will frequently photograph in public environments.

Participants are responsible for understanding and following applicable laws, regulations, and restrictions regarding photography in each location.

We may discuss our approach to photographing people respectfully and responsibly, but each participant ultimately remains responsible for their own conduct and photographic decisions.

Authenticity. Humanity. Wit.

The humanity part matters quite a lot here.

CONDUCT + THE GOLDEN RULE

We want these workshops to be places where people feel comfortable experimenting, asking questions, sharing unfinished work, disagreeing, laughing, learning, and occasionally making photographs they absolutely hate.

In other words: be a good human.

We expect participants to treat instructors, fellow participants, members of the public, venues, and communities we visit with respect.

Harassment, discrimination, threatening behavior, intentionally unsafe conduct, or behavior that significantly disrupts the experience of the group will not be tolerated.

Three Blind Men and an Elephant reserves the right to remove a participant from a workshop when their conduct creates a safety concern or materially interferes with the experience of others. Refunds may not be provided in these circumstances.

SCHEDULE CHANGES

Street photography requires a certain willingness to go where the day takes you.

Our published schedules and agendas are therefore guides rather than promises carved into stone.

Weather, light, transportation, local events, accessibility, group needs, and unexpected opportunities may cause us to change shooting locations, meeting times, activities, instructors, or other elements of the workshop.

Optional shooting sessions may also be offered before or after scheduled workshop hours when conditions allow.

A detailed agenda will typically be provided approximately two weeks before the workshop begins.

Workshop agendas and instructional materials are proprietary and are provided for registered participants only. Please do not reproduce, distribute, publish, or share them without permission.

PHOTOGRAPHY + MEDIA DURING THE WORKSHOP

We may photograph or record portions of a workshop for documentation, educational purposes, or to share the Three Blind Men and an Elephant experience through our website, social media, or other communications.

If you would prefer not to appear in photographs or video, please let us know before the workshop begins.

Participants should also respect one another's preferences when photographing or sharing images of fellow attendees.

COME PREPARED

Our workshops are dedicated to the amateur spirit, whether you're an enthusiast or a professional.

They are not introductory camera courses.

Because we cover a great deal of ground in four days, participants should arrive comfortable using their own cameras, computers or tablets, editing software, and basic social media tools.

If you're not quite there yet, get cracking.

And if you need a little help getting ready, reach out before your workshop. We'd much rather answer a question beforehand than have you struggling with your camera while New York or Tokyo is happening around you.

QUESTIONS?

Policies aren't exactly why any of us got into photography.

If something here isn't clear—or you have a situation you're unsure about—please ask before registering.

hugh@3bmep.com

We're happy to talk it through.

One Last Thing

By completing your registration, you confirm that you have read and agree to these Workshop Policies, including the payment, cancellation, participation, and liability terms above.

Then we can get back to the important stuff.

Making photographs.
